Always Friends Nearby – From “A Thousand Cranes, Volume 2”

The Moon

Always Friends Nearby

no matter where I go, no matter where I roam
I never have to look far
to find friends

friends with the old man’s smile in the cafe
friends with the sun & moon & stars dancing overhead
friends with the woman down the street out watering flowers
friends with the strangers oblivious & rushing in the cities
friends with the birds in the sky fish in the sea & animals roaming
friends with the gentle trees & the swaying breeze I walk past each day
friends with the meadow of freedom & the sunlit fields
friends with notes of music & the great books in my library
friends with every living thing
friends with the very fibre of life
friends with the world
friends with myself
